DBAN is free disposal software designed for the home user. It automatically deletes the contents of any hard surface in which it can discern. This method can enable prevent essence stealing before recycling a computer. DBAN acts also the commonly used solution to remove viruses and spying program from Microsoft Windows installations.

However, DBAN users should be sensitive of some innovation limitations, including:

• No guarantee of data expulsion (e.g. DBAN does no recognize or securely wipe SSDs)
• No audit-ready reporting to regulatory compliance
• Limited hardware support (e.g. no RAID dismantling)
• No customer support or regular software updates

What's new in Darik's Boot and Nuke (DBAN) v2.3:

• Buildroot updated to 2015.02 (new kernel version indicates 3.18.6).
• "nousb" option removed in autonuke mode. Instead filtering away MULTIFUNCTIONAL CONNECTOR media in the shell script.
• Added approach to save refine report (dmesg+dwipe logs) on the shutdown comprising erasure. Pre-requirement: USB stick should be formatted not to mention inserted through PC before the erasure is finished).
• Fixed silent boot.
• HPSA patronage enabled.
• Report screen modified (only disks selected for erasure will be shown).
